Michael is passionate about Scone and its community and is on the Scone Revitalisation Committee. He is also a big golf fan and tries to slip in as much golf with his mates as is possible juggling busy family life.
As well as her role as a GP, Larissa is also a member of the Advisory Committee for Strathearn, the doctor representative on Hospital Staff Council and involved in teaching at the Scone Medical Practice as a Registrar Supervisor.
The Burkes made the move to Scone in part to be near Larissa’s family, and the country lifestyle, career opportunities and the local community sealed the deal. They now have four young children.
Both are heavily involved in the community. Throughout summer, on a Tuesday evening you will see Michael with a starter gun in his hand at the Scone Amateur Athletics Club and on a Thursday evening the whole family play Touch Football. During the winter, there is junior soccer, rugby and hockey often at the same local sports complex.
They live on a picturesque lifestyle property 20 minutes drive from Scone, where the kids are thrilled to have recently welcomed their pony, Pink. A vegie patch, chooks and the creek just a couple of hundred metres away, along with their best friends – Cocker Spaniels, Goldie and Todd, gives them a country experience, still close to great facilities. And their social life revolves around kids, sport, and picnics and BBQ’s with friends.
Larissa is an advocate of encouraging GP’s to move to the country for career potential and the lifestyle. Country GP’s will often gain a broader range and greater variety of experience across a medical practice.
