Daniel was originally from Scone and his mother was ill. Their decision to relocate to Scone was life changing and a blessing although they didn’t quite realise it at the time.
Fast forward 20 years. Daniel and Annette formed Morgan + English Commercial Lawyers, specialising in commercial law for the thoroughbred industry, beef production and processing, and infrastructure.
Annette and Daniel are both also Directors of Thoroughbred Legal, providing specialist legal support to the thoroughbred industry. Annette is Company Secretary of Arcadian Organic & Natural Meat Company Pty Ltd and Daniel is a Director of Safe Industries Australia and the Scone Race Club.
Their legal practice also does pro bono work for a variety of not for profit businesses within the community. They have already employed a couple of law students part time, while they are studying and feel blessed to be working with their daughter Jemima in this way, while she studies law at Sydney University. From Jemima’s perspective, she’s gaining industry experience to support her law degree and when working at Morgan+English, she stays rent free, just a few minutes walk away.
They find Scone very affordable and the amount of investment required is much smaller than in Sydney. Annette has also invested in Inn Scone, which she decorated and converted into luxury self-contained apartments.
Annette’s touch as an interior decorator in another life, is apparent in the tastefully restored old home in the heart of Scone, now their office and walking distance from home.
Their philosophy parallels the community of Scone, the more you put in, the more you get out. And they put into the community, their lifestyle, work and clients’ businesses.
Keeping the balance and making the most of the convenience of Scone, they walk to work, sometimes with Jemima too! Daniel swims laps at the Scone Memorial Swimming Pool at lunchtime and you can often bump into them getting their morning coffee at Kerv Espresso Bar, just down the road.
Looking back twenty years, they wouldn’t have done it differently and are thrilled to have a supportive community of friends and colleagues.
